Y Bülbül (Turchia, London based) Live + Sandra Mason dj set
Y Bülbül is the solo project of Turkish/British artist Yiğit Bülbül, currently based in London, UK. Defying easy categorisation with his music, he’s so far released three albums: Fever (2020), Not One, Not Two (2022) and ÜÜÜ (2024), the first two on the multi-faceted German experimental/electronica label Pingipung and the third one self-released digitally. Between the first two albums, Y Bülbül also released an ultra-limited lathe cut 7” Aspiration Nation / Confusion Dub, a collaboration with director Rose Glass, known for her A24 films Saint Maud and Love Lies Bleeding.
Building on the abstract nature of his second album Not One, Not Two, which was a collaborative effort with the Istanbul based percussionist Yumurta, Y Bülbül embraces a more synthetic texture with ÜÜÜ. This left turn is reflected in his current live set: reinforcing melodic & harmonic richness with rhythmic intensity, persistent freak-out sections and a confrontational attitude that is taking inspiration from IDM artists of the last two decades.
Y Bülbül\’s live setup consists of synths, drum machines, sequencers/loopers as well as occasional musical or visual guests on stage. Whilst performing, he takes the essence of a selection of tracks from his kaleidoscopic discography and reimagines them in an open-ended fashion: live-dubbing/rearranging/mix-and-matching them in cut-up style: psychedelic, hypnotic and seldom predictable. Having played live at festivals like Fusion Festival, Meakusma Festival and Braille Satellite together with DJ sets in New York’s Resolute Party, the Lot Radio and Spiritland, Y Bülbül is on the road throughout 2025.
