Siamo contentə di iniziare l’anno con una riflessione sul processo grazie a una mostra dedicata ai passaggi dalla fotografia all’opera e dall’opera al libro. «Cosa accade alle fotografie di reportage giornalistiche quando la notizia è pubblicata, superata e anni di nuove notizie mettono distanza tra lo scatto e la vita dell’immagine?» Sembra essere questa la domanda che si pone Gabriele Stabile quando, dopo più di un decennio, riapre il suo archivio e inizia il suo percorso creativo con le fotografie lì depositate, trasformandole nelle tavole che vedete, sfogliando il libro. L’azione creativa del fotografo, come la memoria umana, lascia tracce, segni, graffi, ripetizioni di immagini, rende il ricordo un’emozione, immediata per quanto poco vivida e decisamente rielaborata. Swim Till I sank è un invito a immergersi nelle profondità dei ricordi, senza necessariamente annegare.
Il lavoro di Gabriele Stabile, confluito nel libro Swim Till I sank, è frutto di un processo di stratificazioni e riflessioni sulla materia dei progetti portati avanti dall’autore negli ultimi anni, che passano attraverso forme di elaborazione fisica e materiale e in un certo senso di metabolizzazione sul significato della fotografia -specie quando ha come punto di partenza il fotogiornalismo. Stratificazioni e riflessioni che trovano un ulteriore giro di vite nella produzione del libro e nel dialogo con lɜ editorɜ e l’art director di RVM.
La mostra sarà accompagnata da un workshop a cura di Gabriele Stabile e Francesca Pignataro

We are happy to begin the year with a reflection on process through an exhibition devoted to the transitions from photograph to artwork and from artwork to book. “What happens to journalistic reportage photographs when the news is published, outdated, and years of new news put distance between the shot and the life of the image?” This seems to be the question Gabriele Stabile asks himself when, after more than a decade, he reopens his archive and begins his creative journey with the photographs deposited there, transforming them into the plates you see as you leaf through the book. The photographer’s creative action, like human memory, leaves traces, marks, scratches, repetitions of images, makes the memory an emotion, immediate though not very vivid and definitely reworked. Swim Till I sank is an invitation to plunge into the depths of memories, without necessarily drowning.
Gabriele Stabile’s work come together in the book Swim Till I sank, is the result of a process of stratifications and reflections on the subject matter of the projects carried out by the author in recent years, which pass through forms of physical and material elaboration and in a certain sense metabolization on the meaning of photography-especially when it has photojournalism as its starting point. Layers and reflections that find a further turn in the production of the book and in the dialogue with the publishers and the art director of RVM.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a workshop curated by Gabriele Stabile and Francesca Pignataro
